Awards

. . financial prizes for students; involves competitive criteria based on performance and interests.

Research Grants

. . funds for undergraduate research projects, usually for expenses and not for employment

Study Grants

. . funds to support programs of study, including experiential learning, rather than research

Internships

. . typically unpaid positions, but not necessarily. If unpaid, political science majors may apply for Farrell Grants (usually up to $1,000) for support during the internship (see Study Grants ).

Fellowships and Scholarships

. . typically very competitive programs for year-long support of undergraduate or graduate education

Summer Study Programs

. . includes both Northwestern-sponsored programs and programs offered by other institutions in the U.S. and abroad.

Study Abroad Programs

. . typically one-quarter courses offered in the Fall Quarter; these are of special relevance to political science majors

Employment

. . these opportunities come and go. Employers often look for students with computer, statistical, or other research skills.
