this application to the Director of Undergraduate
Studies. (Freshmen should not declare a major in
any field early in the year. They should sample
courses from various departments before fixing their
program of study.)

- Ten courses in political science are
required for a major at Northwestern.
- - Three must be at the 200-level
- - Seven must be at the 300-level. Of the seven
300-level courses,
- - one must be in Research Methods (taken
within the department;
outside course no longer qualify)
- - one must be 395--the Political Research
Seminar.
- Five additional courses are required
in related fields, two at the 300 level.
- This application only covers the courses in
political science.

After you submit this application, you will get an
e-mail message from Prof. Janda, who will assign you an
advisor and send a copy to him or her. Then you
must go to the Third Floor South of Scott Hall to
see Bonnie Gordon, our Undergraduate Assistant. She will
give you the Weinberg College Declaration of Major form,
which must be signed by your advisor and returned to her.
That's what makes your major official.
