Development Project, 1953-56
- A $90,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation
(1950 dollars) to improve undergraduate and graduate
training in political science propelled the department
into national visibility.

- Program of Graduate
Training and Research in International Relations,
1956-62
- Under leadership of incoming chair Richard Snyder,
the department obtained another commitment of support
from the Carnegie Corporation, a five year program in
international relations.

- Donner Foundation and Earhart
Foundation Support of the Canadian Studies Program,
1974-92
- Prof. R. Barry Farrell, a Canadian citizen,
established the Canadian Studies Program with an
initial grant of $120,320 over three years from the
William H. Donner Foundation. The original grant was
supplemented by support from the William H. Donner
Foundation and occasional grants from the provinces of
Quebec and Ontario.
