Comparative politics, political economy, East Asian politics. Her teaching and research interests include the development and organization of the Pacific Rim economy; study of the developmental state in comparative perspective; and US economic relations with East Asia.

She is the author, under the name Jung-en Woo, of Race to the Swift: State and Finance in Korean Industrialization, and the co-editor (with Michael Loriaux) of Past as Prelude: History in the Making of a New World Order, as well as Financial Liberalization in Interventionist States.
