Kathleen Thelen Ph.D.

Associate Professor; Comparative Politics, Western
European politics, political economy of labor in the
advanced industrial countries.
Her teaching and research interests include union
movements, social democracy, and the welfare state in the
advanced capitalist democracies. She is the author of
Union of Parts: Labor Politics in Postwar Germany
and co-editor of Structuring Politics: Historical
Institutionalism in Comparative Analysis.
She is currently working on a comparative study that
examines the historical evolution of cross-national
differences in institutions for labor representation at
the plant level, as well as an edited volume that
explores alternative approaches to the study of
labor.
